Concord, NH – NHGOP Chairman Stephen Stepanek released the following statement regarding Governor Chris Sununu’s budget:

“Governor Chris Sununu has submitted a responsible budget that lives within our means, and commits one-time money for one-time expenses. Dedicating $247 Million in one-time spending projects on capital improvements in “property poor” school districts and new beds to alleviate the mental health crisis will solve a plethora of problems facing the Granite State. Governor Sununu wisely continues the business tax relief at the rate decreases described in existing statute, the same business tax relief efforts that have resulted in record economic growth and development in New Hampshire.”

“The Governor’s budget merges the General Fund and the Education Trust Fund, an accounting procedure that saves administrative costs and simplifies the process. That being said, the operating funds in FY20 will represent a 1% decrease in state spending over FY19, while FY21 represents a 1% increase over FY19.”

“As a budget that seeks to enshrine the New Hampshire Advantage within it, Governor Sununu’s budget includes no new taxes and does not increase any existing fees. This is a smart budget that the people of New Hampshire will support – members of the House and the Senate would be foolish not to get behind it.”
