CONCORD – As the new mental health crisis unit opened in Concord this morning, the Associated Press noted that it “was supposed to open last fall, but faced hiring delays from Democratic Gov. Maggie Hassan’s budget veto” last summer. New Hampshire State Republican Committee (NHGOP) Chairman Jennifer Horn issued the following statement:

“While it’s positive news that this mental health unit is now accepting patients, it’s unfortunate that it opened so far behind schedule because of Governor Hassan’s reckless and politically motivated budget veto. Voters won’t forget that Hassan’s selfish political games delayed critical funding and services for New Hampshire’s most vulnerable citizens, put unnecessary pressure on local emergency rooms and caused chaos in our state’s health care system – which is proof that she puts her political ambitions ahead of the people of New Hampshire.”

Concord — As America celebrates Independence Day, New Hampshire Republican State Committee (NHGOP) Chairman Jennifer Horn released the following message:

Their vision of freedom and opportunity changed the world and we continue to keep their patriotic spirit alive today. Last night we held a meeting at the Salt Hill Pub in Newport to get our people started in the 2016 election season.  We were joined by NHGOP Chair Jennifer Horn, Area Vice Chair Jane Johnson, NH House Transportation Committee Chairman Rep. Steven Smith, NH House Transportation Committee Clerk Rep. Tom Laware, Rep. Jim Grenier, Rep. Ernie Bridge, and Newport’s own Rep. Skip Rollins.

Candidates for NH State Senate 8 Jim Beard and Ruth Ward, and Senate 5 candidate Marie Lozito addressed the gathering.

Sullivan County candidates for the NH House were also in attendance.  We heard from new candidates Francis Gauthier, Dave Numme, Walt Stapleton, John O’Connor, Tom Greenhalge, and Ian Underwood.

County level candidates addressing the group included Janet Gibson (Register of Deeds) and George Hebert (County Commissioner).

Thanks to all who made this event a success, and for demonstrating your enthusiasm for GOP success in 2016.

Our hearts go out to the victims of the Orlando shooting. Sadly, these events bring out the worst in people. Look to leaders and politicians to not focus on mourning, but rather how to gain some political advantage from it. Rights groups who believe themselves to be vested in it will use it to promote their causes. Issue advocates will clamor for legislation, using this as an opportunity to gain leverage for their issue. This is all abhorrent behavior. Maybe I am too simple a person to understand the nuances, but let me tell how I feel.

One of America’s strengths throughout the years is that while we have our differences with each other, we set them aside and unite when attacked or threatened. I don’t care if it was a gay bar, a Latino bar, or (insert your own group) bar. It was an American bar. Americans were attacked, at home, where we live. LGBT, gay, straight, it doesn’t matter. Those people were Americans. Besides the victims who were killed or wounded, there are even more American friends and family traumatized, scarred, and grieving.

We should only be doing two things right now. 1 – Express your support and sympathy for those hurt or killed, and their loved ones. 2 – Show a shoulder to shoulder united front against those who would do us harm, and explain to them that while we may have our differences, when attacked, we are all simply Americans… and we will not stand for it.

I offer my sympathy to those who were victims, and their families.

Two  More Business Tax Reform  Bills Move Forward

CONCORD  –
In addition to the business tax  relief included in the Republican state budget  passed last year by overriding the governor’s  veto, the legislature has been working on other  bill s to help the state take steps in the right  direction on other areas of business tax law.
This week,  a joint  committee of conference on  SB293 and HB668 met to work out the  fin al  details of the two bills dealing with the same  subject matter:  raising the cap on deductions  for capital purchases.
Often referred to as the  “ section 179 ” bills,  referencing the federal tax code provisions the  bills hope to reflect at the state level, the  committee settled on the House language  raising the cap to $100,000, a 4x increase from  the current $25,000 level.
The second area of reform was addressed in
SB342 ,  which the Union Leader describes,  “ change[s] how closely held companies such as  sole proprietorships or limited liability  companies are taxed when they receive an  infusion of cash, such as an initial public  offering or investment capital. ” This legislation  hopes to  alleviate the potentially crippling tax  burden for  growing  companies.
The committee of conference on SB342 also  adopted the House version of  the bill.
These two new provisions along with the first  business tax r ate cuts in 20 years  add to the  pro – business resume of this Republican  legislature.
